The 6th branch of the General Assembly, the Legal Committee (LEGAL) is primarily occupied with the disputes affiliated with international legal matters and is the primary forum for the consideration of international law and other legal matters concerning the United Nations. In this edition of HaydarpasaMUN’25, two crucial legal issues will be examined in today’s digital age: The legality of state restrictions on social media, addressing the balance between individual rights and governmental movements; and the rise of cybercrime, illegality and blackmail driven by artificial intelligence, emphasizing the challenges these threats pose to the legality. Cybercriminals are harnessing AI to launch attacks, from automated phishing scams that trick even the most of the users to deepfake technology that creates realistic fake videos and audio recordings for blackmail or disinformation. By developing international legal frameworks that consider human rights, a safer digital future for future generations will be shaped.
